SHERRILL NEWSLETTER
27 September 1983
Dear Cousins :
This will be, I expect, the last pages of the "Sherrill Newslatter" that I
will issue. I expect that beginning with page 33 Lee & Donna Sherrell will
take over this task.
First of all, I want to take this means of expressing my deepest thanks for
all of the co-operation and assistance that I have received from all of you.
Without this, it would have been impossible for me to freely assist all who
have enquired as to their Sherrill ancestry. It would also have made it
impossible for me to have written the two books following the descendants of
two of the sons of Adam "The Pioneer. It would also make it improbable that
I could have worked toward a central exchange for Sherrill information, or
toward a "Sherrill Family Association."
Some may think that I have used the information that they have sent me to
enable me to write these books. It certainly has, and through writing these
books I have made available much consolidated information for the use of all.
I assure you that I made nothing on the first book that I wrote. In fact
I lost money on it, and it took years devoted solely to that book. I do not
expect to make anything on the second book, This is as it should be, since
I am only helping the family, I am also sending what information I
have to others who are writing books on the descendants of the other sons.
I hope that you will help them as you have helped me.
I will continue to maintain the master card file (14-16,000 cards) for some
time to come, before turning it over to Lee & Donna Sherrell. You will soon
hear from them through the pages of this letter. They will be leaving 955 -
9th Street, Gering, Neb. 69341 sometime around Christmas, but their mail should
be forwarded to them for another year. I suggest that you contact them early
next year to learn their address. They are moving to Atlanta but of course they
do not have an address there as yet. They will be able to answer all questions
regarding the descendants of Adam's (The Pioneer) sons, Capt. William and Jacob.
They are also compiling a book on Adam's third son, Uriah. I sent them what
information I had on Uriah but 90% of it was lost in the mails and we have been
unable to locate it. So of course they will welcome any info. that you may have
on that line. I have given them the needed permission to republish the book
on Capt.(Rev. War ) William and they are taking firm orders for printing copies
of that book. Eventually they will publish a book on the descendants of Uriah.
Mary LaJean Sherrill, 908 Live Oak, Denton, Texas 76201 will answer all questions
re. the descendants of Samuel, second son of "The Pioneer". She will also appre--
ciate any material that you can furnish her on this line. She is writing a book
on this line.
Wanda Clark, 1304 East Miami, McAlester, Okla. 74501 is compiling information
on Adam's fifth son, Aquilla, and will appreciate anything that you can send
her regarding this son's descendants, She will publish a book on this line.
She will also appreciate anything available on the early life of Adam, his wife,
Elizabeth _________? and his father William, who traded with the Indians and was
also a Conestoga Trader.

I will appreciate any competent person offering to write books on the descend-
ants of the remaining sons of Adam, "The Pioneer" : Adam, Jr. the fourth son
and Moses, the eighth son. I have some information on these and will galdly
turn it over to anyone wanting to write on either of these, and I will help
as much as possible.
Until all books are written, I will maintain the files and answer questions,
but remember, if you descend from any about whom a book is being written,
I will not have the family info., just the index cards. You should write to
the person working on that line, otherwise it would just cause me to send it
on the person most interested. If you do not know from whom you descend
then write to me.
After publishing the book on Captain William, son of Adam, I received much mail,
from people submitting their lines that were not in the book, I then published
supplemental pages (126) with index to fit the published book. That would
make the book too thick for the spine so I also provide the needed wider spine.
I have a few of these supplemental pages and spines that fit right into your
book. The price, $8. per set.pp.
I also had 25 extra copies of the "Jacob Sherrill, son of Adam & Elizabeth and
Some of Their Descendants" printed. Since I have my money tied up in these I
will have to sell them at $35 per copy. pp.
In-so-far as is possible, under the forgoing guidelines, I will limit my gen-
ealogical activities to researching my personal ancestry, All lines. EVERYONE
WHO CONTRIBUTED TO MY BEING HERE !. I descend as follows: William Sherrill,
"The Indian Trader" and his wife, (Possibly Margaret); Adam "The Pioneer" and
his wife, Elizabeth ________?; Jacob Sherrill and his wife, Hulda Wilson; Samuel
Wilson Sherrill and his wife, Elizabeth Thomas; Archibald Sherrill and his first
wife, Elizabeth Anderson; Samuel Wilson Sherrill and his wife, Eliza Ann Bomar;
Lillard LeGrand Sherrill and his first wife, Betttie Steed; William Andrew
Sherrill (Sr.) and his first wife, Ella England; myself, William Andrew Sherrill,
(Jr.). I will appreciate any information that you can furnish me regarding the
ancestry of these wives.
Again many thanks for all the assistance that you have furnished. If I have
offended anyone over the years, I am sorry, Perhaps it was a mistake on my part.
Sincerely
